The Principal Components of Dog Food is made up from the first 3 ingredients which will be listed on the bag or can of your pet food.

Chicken, lamb or beef meal is the ideal 1st ingredient. Not to be confused with corn gluten meal or bone meal which you should avoid.

When your first ingredient is listed as Chicken, Lamb or some other meat the company making the food is misleading you into thinking about the quantity of meat used. Chicken meat is 70-75% water! It may be listed on the ingredients list as the number one ingredient because of the weight but that's before cooking. Once the water has been cooked out of it, the meat drops in weight and ceases to be the main ingredient. So the number two ingredient serves as the main protein source.
