Pet Newsletter - Does Your Pet Have Allergies?

March 2008

Like people, are dogs can be allergic to various substances, including plant particles and other substances in the air or in their food. These substances are called allergens. Allergens are substances that, when inhaled or absorbed through the skin, respiratory tract, or gastrointestinal tract, stimulate histamine production, which results in inflammation.

Fewer than 10% of dogs are thought to be genetically predisposed to become sensitized to allergens in the environment. Breeds predisposed to developing allergies include Chinese Shar-Peis, Wirehaired Fox Terriers, Golden Retrievers, Dalmatians, Boxers, Boston Terriers, Labrador Retrievers, Lhasa Apsos, Scottish Terriers, Shih Tzus, and West Highland White Terriers. However, any dog of any breed can be allergic. The age of onset is generally between 6 months and 3 years. Itching is the most typical sign. The feet, face, ears, front legs, and abdomen are the most frequently affected areas, but scratching all over the body is common. Scratching can lead to secondary signs of wounds, scabbing, infection, hair loss, and scaling. Other signs include licking or chewing the paws and rubbing the face and eyes.

The Importance of the Immune System.

Allergies in general are a result of a depressed immune system and a toxic lifestyle. The Azmira Lifestyle Approach is very important when dealing with an allergic condition as these conditions are often the precursor to more serious conditions such as cancer (especially when suppressed with a lifetime of steroids, antihistamines and antibiotics). Azmira's Foundation Supplements will provide the daily fuel to help prevent a recurrence of symptoms when exposed to allergens.

A Natural Way To Relieve Allergy Symptoms.

Herbal antihistamines and anti-inflammatory products are very effective and a good alternative to over-the-counter antihistamines like benedryl or Veterinarian prescriptions like steroids.

Yucca Intensive is made from a desert root which has been used for centuries by native cultures to reduce inflammation. It is an herbal steroid alternative.

Aller"G Free, our OTC antihistamine alternative, is a formulation of dry herbs and powered extracts which noticeably reduce symptoms within the first hour of use. When used in conjunction with the Yucca Intensive it makes a powerful combination to relieve allergy symptoms.
